This was a stop on our cruise, and we did an excursion outside of La Romana, but we did a brief drive-thru of the city as well.

La Romana is my favorite city that I've been to in the Dominican Republic. It has great hotels, beautiful beaches and great food!

It isn’t a walking friendly port, but inexpensive taxis make seeing La Romana fairly easy. Rates are set, so when you walk to the taxi stand at the cruise terminal, you can buddy up with fellow cruisers and save some cash. When cruise ships are in town, the city plaza turns into a colorful market of souvenirs, jewelry and crafts. Just about all of the prices are negotiable. An added perk, the market is only a five minute or so drive from the cruise ship pier. Regardless of your destination, you can often make arrangements with the driver to come pick you up at a set time. Our polite cabbie found a spot in the shade, and waited near the city plaza while we wandered. Visiting sugar cane fields can also be a fun family activity. If you get the opportunity to taste fresh sugar cane, don’t say no.

La Romana, Dominican Republic- a hidden gem on the south eastern coast de la republica dominicana that keeps the soul vibrant with its colorful wildlife, the pallet flavorful with its limitless sancocho and your dry skin from the Dominican sun quenched with its Caribbean waters. Go and indulge in a few glasses if cubalibres (Brugal and Coca-Cola) and don't forget to shot some Mamajuana!!!
