KEWEENAW PENINSULA FALL COLOR TOUR Heading to the Keweenaw & Copper Harbor from the Porcupine Mountains, take Highway 64 east to Ontonagon. If you are in a hurry, take Highway 38 to Highway 26 which goes north to Houghton-Hancock. An interesting side jaunt is Rt. 45 to Rockland, then take a county road SW (4 miles) to the historic Old Victoria, a restored pioneer homestead. The drive takes you down into a steep canyon formed by the Ontonagon River and then up again to the pioneer village. Drive Hwy. 26 to historic Houghton-Hancock, Michigan, then continue through the mining communities of Calumet and Larium. Stay on Hwy. 26 & 41, until the town of Phoenix. You can take the lake shore scenic drive on Hwy 26 through Eagle River where you might enjoy stopping for a meal at Fitzgerald’s Restaurant. Drive further along the lakefront through Eagle Harbor all the way to Copper Harbor. However, a more direct route is Hwy. 41 which is also scenic during fall color season but does not go along the lakeshore. Once in Copper Harbor be sure to head up Brockway Mountain Drive. It is the highest paved road between the Rockies and the Alleghenies. The drive is 10 miles long and has many pull-offs allowing you to stop and take in the scenery. There are two nature preserves along the drive that are worth visiting too. At the top, 735 feet above Copper Harbor, you will find a breathtaking 360° view of Lake Superior. This is an excellent and memorable scenic drive.

Hancock is a gateway city to the Keweenaw Peninsula. It is also home to the Quincy Hoist museum and mine. The city is on built on a side of a hill so some areas are difficult for disability access. Disability parking is limited in some parts of the city. You can spend about 1 to 2 days to explore the city.
