I spent five days in Himara and absolutely loved it. It’s a great base from which to explore the area. It’s a quiet town, but has a few beaches, plenty of nice restaurants to keep you occupied, and nice sights a short drive from the town. Himara is backed by mountains and old Himara with its castle.
The Albanian Riviera is underrated and should be explored by those that want to experience nice beaches and the very blue Ionian Sea. Himare is much less built up than the larger city of Sarande to the south. The beach is backed up the dark brooding Ceraunian mountains. As you head north along the coastal road you will cross the Llogaraja Pass which takes you up and up over tight hair-pin turns and provides breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea.
I liked the Aerea around Himara a lot, the old villages are quiet in the mountains, some of the beaches are realy empty, the Himera Beach seems more touristic then the others around
