Cooktown is a small settlement that's found north of the Daintree National Park, on the Cape York Peninsula. This is where the real, remote region of Far North Queensland begins and after Cooktown, you will need a four by four to get anywhere. The town is named for Captain James Cook, who in 1770 after damaging his ship on the Great Barrier Reef, stayed at the same spot to repair the Endeavour.
A town with a lot of early Australian history. Named after Captain James Cook.
I was lucky enough to witness such a beautiful sunset during my travels in North Queensland. This tropical farmland is spectacular and is teeming with all sorts of wildlife from spiders to crocodiles. This photo was taken on a farm I was living on out in the middle of nowhere, I would recommend anyone seeking untouched tropical rainforests to make the 4 hour trip north of cairns and find out just what it has to offer.
