The holiest site in Burma that many make pilgrimages to. It's a bit of a bus ride from Yangon but worth it if you have a day to spare.
A massive rock balanced on the edge of a cliff has been coated in gold and a beautiful temple has been built adjacent. Well worth a visit.
Kyaitikyo (The Golden Rock) is more popular with domestic tourists than internationals - the rock itself is disappointing. The view from the ridge is impressive, though best seen at sunrise and sunset. The only way to get this view is to stay the night at one of the hotels along the ridge top (though several have ties to the oppressive junta government - be aware where your money is going). The atmosphere at night is wildly religious in a carnival kind of way.
