Scruffy but friendly city. Watch for scam artists offering to take you to a "cultural" performance. Be careful at the the market.

I went to boarding school in Addis from 1962-1972. Then went back there in 1988 to work for a US Relief Organization that was flying food and medicine to areas of Ethiopia where it was too difficult to reach by road. Addis as a large crowded city like many others in Africa, but once you get out of the city the country of Ethiopia is beautiful and varied from high mountains to low deserts and everything in between. The Ethiopian national food Injera and Wat is the best tasting food I have ever had and to this day I crave it and look for it where ever I am.
