Located in the ACME Hotel, The Berkshire Room is a stunning hotel bar. In some ways, The Berkshire Room feels like walking into an old-school soda fountain. The name comes from the original name of the hotel, Berkshire Hotel, and the bar barrel-ages some of their cocktails. If you don't want to go with one of their featured cocktails, the Berkshire Room also has an extensive dealer's choice section where you can select almost every part of your drink, from the base spirit to the glass wear. Cocktails not your thing? They also have a pretty long beer and wine selection. On top of everything else, the Berkshire Room also has a kitchen that serves up bar snacks, sandwiches, small plates, and desserts.
A great spot for those days when you're in the mood to try something totally new. Located just off of the ACME Hotel lobby, the Berkshire Room is a small, cozy cocktail with a subtle charm and a drink menu that offers all the classic cocktails and several refreshing original mixes. Even better: if you're looking for something different but you don't know what, you also have the option of picking a flavor, a liquor, and a glass shape and let one of the Berkshire bartenders surprise you with an original drink invented on the spot!
Cool bar, with attentive service and good cocktails. Loved the decor especially the mix and match crystal martini glasses. My only gripe is that there wasn't enough ladies restrooms!
**FUN AND FRIENDLY SPEAKEASY COCKTAIL LOUNGE**
LOVE throwbacks!
Especially when it's DRIPPING in whiskey and ROARING with flapper charm.
AMBIANCE
==========
Not too dark like cocktail lounges tend to be, just enough light to determine if your date is a Strobe Light Honey (definition: http://www.urbandictiona…).
Nooks and crannies of the lounge were filled with vintage spirits bottles and cut crystal punchbowls, and the floor is the refurbished original terrazzo from the Berkshire Hotel that occupied the space in the 1920s to the 1950s.
So cool, right?
The barrel room that houses their selection of barrel-aged cocktails is behind an unmarked door in the main room.
COCKTAILS
==========
Located inside the Acme Hotel right off of Michigan Avenue, it offers a cocktail list, plus five different barrel-aged drinks, and a "Dealer's Choice" menu.
For a dealer's choice, we selected a spirit (the 20-item list runs from whiskey to to Old Tom gin) and a flavor profile ($13).
Sweet and sour?
Spicy?
Smoky?
Strong and stirred?
CHOSE:
(1) Bourbon
(2) Strong and stirred
RESULT:
The creation was a coffee-tasting bourbon liquor which was beautifully concocted.
OTHER
=======
If I wasn't too full, I would have order their dessert: a chocolate soufflé with charred bourbon barrel ice cream. OMG.
SERVICE
=========
Nice and friendly.
They seated us almost immediately, although it was packed house.
Loved the vibe here.
RECOMMEND for a craft cocktail in the River North area.
