Everything is delicious. I have yet to find something on the menu I dislike. Seafood is not always prepared how it should be and often over cooked. Shaw's always nails it. The service is awesome as well. Only thing to keep in mind, even with a reservation you will often wait for the table. They always say they are behind on seating reservations. They are always busy and I know this can be a tough thing with reservations at all hours.
This was our "splurge" dinner for our trip to Chicago. I was a little nervous, because I had my three kids with me, and there were very few other children in the restaurant. The waitperson couldn't be nicer, though, and she was very patient and friendly with my kids. The decor is very old school, which is exactly what I was looking for. The attire for diners was everything from casual to dressed for a special night out (the couple next to us was celebrating her birthday). I had a manhattan, and it was fabulous. We had a dozen oysters on the half shell as an appetizer, which were fresh and good. My kids ordered the whole lobster and the soft shell crab, and were very happy (did I mention this was our splurge dinner?). I ordered the lobster and filet, which was very good. We had the potatoes side dish and shared it. For dessert, we had the key lime pie and something else, which I can't remember, but I think it was chocolate? I do remember both were very good. The service was excellent throughout the night. The only negative was that we waited a bit past our reservation time. I would definitely go back!
If you ever get a craving for oysters, visit between 4pm-6pm and get half off a dozen ($15). The oysters are consistently solid.
Tucked away on Hubbard Street near lower Michigan Avenue, Shaw's is where the locals go for fresh oysters and delicious seafood. The lobster bisque will make you cry, but the old fashioned cocktails will make you forget there was ever anything to cry about.
I have to admit I'm not a fan of oysters, but my friends were moaning in delight over the platter of mollusks at the middle of our table. My popcorn shrimp, though not nearly as classy, was delightful, too.
There are a ton of great places to eat in this town, but I always go here. Best service around. The seafood is perfect, sushi is delicious and don't forget the martini!
Decent seafood. I wouldn't pick this place myself, but wouldn't complain if someone else chose it.
Awesome clam chowder. I love the oyster bar, fun energetic ambience.
