Fethiye is a beautiful city nestled between the mountains and the turquoise sea.
As well as being a working city where people go about their day to day jobs, it is also a very peaceful harbour city where tourists can find boat trips, arrange to go scuba diving, eat fresh fish dinners at the fish market, be amazed by the huge multicoloured Tuesday market and eat in one of the many varied restaurants which are in abundance throughout the city

Just a short bus ride to the main town, where you will find plenty of shops and restaurants to cater for all tastes. Whilst in Fethiye, why not try the Fish market - what an amazing experience. This is the place to buy your local fruit, Veg, Meat.

Fethiye is a bustling town set around the marina with an ancient bazaar, a famous fish market where you can buy and have cooked a wide variety of seafood. Once per week there is a very large fruit and vegetable market along the riverside. The town centre has banks, cash machines and bureau de change, fashion shops and a good selection of jewelers.

Fethiye is a working town and is the main base for transport to regions further afield. Those looking for a beach based holiday will either stay in Calis, which is regarded as Fethiye's beach, or Olu Deniz which is 15kms away over the hills. There are a number of Marinas in and around Fethiye, which is famous for the 12 Island Boat Tours, as well as a start/finish point for Blue Cruises.

City of Fethiye is located on the sites of the ancient city of Telmessos (The Land of Lights), the ruins of which can be seen in the city by the main quay. Telmessos was the most important city of Lycia, with a recorded history starting in the 5th century BC.
The city became part of the Persian Empire after the invasion of the Persian general Harpagos in 547 BC, along with other Lycian and Carian cities.
Legend says the Alexander the Great on a mission to invade Anatolia in the winter of 334-333 BC, entered Telmessos harbour with his fleet.
Very little is known of the city during Byzantine times. By the 10th century, the ancient name was forgotten and it become known as Makre or Makri. It became part of the Otoman Empire in 1424.
The town grew considerably in the 19th century and had a large Greek population at this time. Following the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, the Greeks of Makri were sent to Greece where they founded the town of Nea Makri. The town was resettled with Turks from Greece.
In 1934, the city was renamed 'Fethiye' in honor of Fethi Bey, one of the first pilots of the Ottoman Air Force, killed on an early mission.
Nowadays, Fethiye is one of the well known tourists centers, which with Oludeniz was chosen as the best tourism center in the world by the Times and the Guardian newspapers in 2007.
To the north of the city center is the area of Calis Beach, one of the most picturesque promenade full with small cafes and restaurants, hotels, villas and apartment complex. Calis is also lucky enough to have it's promenade in exactly the right place for watching amazing sunsets :))

Fethiye is a great place for a visit. Tuesday is market day and the market is huge! Half is clothing, shoes, household, goods etc, and the other half is fruit, veg, spices, the like of which you have never seen before! Fruit and veg is abundant, cheap and very tasty. Buy your fresh Turkish Delight here. Visit the tombs on the outskirts of the town, the old streets with their bazaars, cafes and bars, very picturesque, cool and wonderful shops. The harbour has plenty of restaurants as well, all good value to. You can book a boat trip here, there are so many to choose from and all are very good. Part of the harbour area has undergone a transformation with beautifully paved and landscaped areas, fountains enhanced by coloured lights and music. Great play areas for kids and plenty of seating. Simply wonderful!
