Piazza della Repubblica

Se vi trovate a Firenze vi consiglio di fermarvi per un caffè, un aperitivo o un pranzo, in Piazza della Repubblica, sono sicuro che nonostante i costi (sono più alti se vi sedete al tavolo) ne varrà la pena.
La Piazza si trova nel centro storico della città, ha una forma rettangolare ed è il risultato di quella che prende nome come Risanamento, ovvero una ridefinizione urbanistica di alcune parti di Firenze dopo l'unità d'Italia (1861) dovuta all'insediamento a Firenze per un breve periodo della capita del Regno d'Italia dal 1865 al 1871.

Piazza della Repubblica is one of the hubs of Florentine life, and the antique carousel in the square is a fine way for young travellers to take a break from sight-seeing. Just around the corner is a cheese lover’s dream stop for lunch, Obikà Mozzarella Bar. Also nearby is Bartolucci, the wooden toy workshop and store where you can find coveted Pinocchio souvenirs made for generations by the Bartolucci family.

The Piazza della Repubblica is the very heart and soul of Florence. The architecture is simply stunning, although some of the ramshackle stores take a little away from it.

Has lost a bit of its charm due to restoration work. A nice carousel that kids will enjoy. Adults will love coffee at Gilli.

Piazza della Repubblica was the first site of the city's forum, as well as the old ghetto, though neither remains today. It was also once a meeting place for many influential artists. It is dominated by a massive arch that spans the back wall of the square.

The site of the old Roman Forum, where Florence began--a great central meeting point and fab for people watching. If I'm in the mood for fancy, I'll have my caffe at the Belle Epoque Gilli, or if I want to go more artsy, there's the Giubbe Rosse. The Merry Go Round there adds just the right playful touch.
