Although Cornwall has an abundance of bays and fishing villages, they are all unique in their own way. I was lucky enough to visit Fowey on a cloudless sunny day and the views across the bay were stunning. The narrow winding streets are filled with gift stores, ice cream parlours and Cornish pasty shops. St. Catherine's castle overlooks attractive Readymoney Beach on the other side of the hill and is worth the walk for the superb views to Bodinnick on the other side of the bay.

A pretty town to visit. Take the Bodinnick ferry across the river, walk to Polruan and catch the passenger ferry back to Fowey for a great day out.

Is a lovely traditional Cornish harbour with little shops and restaurants, I especially like Pinky Murphy's, a fun café (you can even do some knitting while you wait!!). Again Niles bakers do good Cornish Pasties and freshly made sandwiches to order. You can go mackerel fishing from here; enquire in the fishing shop near the Bodinnick ferry car park. The Bodinnick ferry will take you across the river if you want to carry on along the coast to Looe and Polperro. There are two ways of getting to Fowey from the main road. It doesn’t really matter which way you go, as there are car parks both ways. But again try not to drive through Fowey as the roads are really narrow. There is a lovely coastal walk from Menabilly to Fowey. Menabilly was Mandalay in Rebecca (you will pass the boat house on your walk). There is a wonderful Artisan bread shop called the quay bakery in Fowey. Wonderful bread and if you buy the ciabatta and serve it with strawberry jam and clotted cream it can rival any scone or Cornish split. Sounds weird, but it really is lovely.

A yachting Haven with wonderful eateries along the harbour and fabulous independent shops and art galleries. A perfect little beach called Readymoney Cove and breathtaking cliff top walks.

The estuary town of Fowey is closely linked with Daphne du Maurier who lived and wrote here. An exhibition at The Literary Centre outlines the author’s life and works. The 15th-century church of St Fimbarrus stands as the focal point in the town and fine views of the estuary can be savoured from the nearby ruins of St Catherine’s Castle. From the esplanade there are several scenic walks around the coast as well as to the small beach of Readymoney Cove. Fowey annually hosts a Regatta in the third week of August as well as The Fowey Festival of Words and Music in May.
