Backpackers Villa Sonnenhof

For as cheap as a night's stay here is, I'm not sure why anyone would stay anywhere else in Interlaken. More reminiscent of a swiss spa than a hostel, the facilities of Backpackers Villa are top notch: multiple kitchens, laundry, free wifi, great decks and patios for enjoying nice days, great common areas and rec rooms for hiding from bad weather, clean and comfortable beds, decent breakfast, helpful, friendly staff, and access to all the activities offered in Interlaken and the surrounding areas (lauterbrunnen, grindelwald, etc). At just a few minutes walk from the train station, and another few minutes from "downtown" Interlaken, you won't be disappointed!

This hostel is within walking distance of the East (Ost) station. The staff was quite helpful, though were not in when I arrived. They close reception for lunch from 12-2pm, so I had to wait about 30 minutes.

Upon check-in, things went quickly and smoothly. The room was on the top floor reached by a set of old, squeaky stairs. It was clean, quiet and had good views from all the windows. My room was a private room and included a closet, couch, sink, and a double bed. There was an elevator, but it was limited to staff use only.

The toilet was separate from the showers, which were fairly small. There was no shelf to put soap or shampoo on, but there was plentiful hot water. On my floor of 4 double rooms there was one toilet, 3 shower stalls, and a meditation room.

There is a bus stop right outside that takes skiers to the slopes and another stop right on the city line. There is also a special taxi that will take you to either train station for 10 CHF. The usual hostel amenities can be found on the ground floor: computers, pool table, plenty of seating for socializing, etc.

Overall, it was quite nice, centrally located, friendly, and clean. For the price, it can't be beat. I would definitely return.
