SEPTEMBER 2014 UPDATE

I was recently in Michigan City again for a business trip and of course had to stop in at the Shoreline Brewery & Restaurant during my first evening in town. The beer was wonderful as always and I the food has improved.

Our group entered on the bar side of the establishment. The restaurant entrance allows families into a dining room known as the "fish bowl". We had a good time looking inside, watching Monday Night Football, enjoying a fun and lively banter with the wait staff, and thoroughly enjoying our meal.

I returned here last year for Dinner with a colleague who is a real beer aficionado. In fact, he belongs to Shoreline's "Mug Club" and is on a first name basis with the staff here. We had a great time talking about work and family, comparing notes about Iowa, and discussing the finer technical details of beer making. And we both returned safety home - him to his wife and kids, and me back to the hotel and within days, Gayle.

I don't remember much about the food (except that it went well with the beer), as the evening got a little foggy with the consumption of a lot of great tasting micro-brew. And it was "almost" better than sex, beer-wise. I'm a "hoppy" sort of guy and the Rillo Rye gave me what I craved and more. It was loaded with Amarillo hops, was full-bodied, had a complex nose that reminded me of wine tasting, and finished me off with a hint of sweet malt. For "seconds", I strayed to a delicious "Cluster Phuch" IPA, and relaxed postcoital with the smooth and rich chocolate and coffee flavors of a tall glass of a Saint of Circumstance Imperial Stout.
