Gluek's has a great German beer hall vibe going for it. There's a lot of beer, German food, and plenty of seating. I highly recommend the mac & cheese made with spätzle.
My friends and I went to Gluek's after hearing the music as we passed by. The bar has a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Although there were plenty of people, there were not so many that you couldn't breathe (Goldilocks would think it was just the right amount). The band, Sabby White & The Furnace, was one of the best live bands I have heard and I highly recommend going to see them wherever they are playing. If I lived in Minneapolis I would definitely go back. Good beer, good music, nice people; what more could you ask?
My brother and I stopped here before the Twins game against the White Sox. While the surrounding patio restaurants were overflowing, there were indoor tables available at Gluek's. That made us wonder why at first, but things filled up nicely the closer we got to game time. There's also a generational thing going on, as "older" folks such as ourselves settled into this neighbourhood bar atmosphere, with dark woods and stuffed animals on the walls. I also thought that the architecture of the building itself was pretty cool.
Scott and I bellied up to the bar and had really good service throughout our stay. We also enjoyed our Gluek's Red and Guinness over an order of Wings. There was a happy buzz throughout the establishment, but it didn't affect our ability to chat and catch up on personal and family matters. Best of all when we were done, it was a straight shot to the Kirby Pucket Gate (#34) and an eventual 7-6 Twins victory.
