This is my favourite bridge in the whole world!
I know, I know... I may have a thing for old Ottoman stone bridges, but you'll see what I mean once you get there.
Stari Most looks splendid even if reconstructed [the original one was destroyed during the war] and it looks splendid both from afar and up-close [you will feel the thrills once you look down].
To think that they hold a Red Bull Diving competition here!...

A beautiful bridge that stood for over 400 years before its destruction in 1993. Yet its hard to tell that the newest bridge (rebuilt in 2004) is new. It has an amazing view of the river, and both sides lead to a charming old town.

Arching across the Neretva river, the Stari Most, or Old Bridge, was reconstructed using the same methods and materials which the original Turkish architects employed nearly 500 years ago.The Bridge was reopened in 2004, following an estimated $13m reconstruction, after the original 16th-Century bridge was blown up in 1993 during the bitter fighting between the city’s Muslims and Croats in the Bosnian war. Local youths stand on the bridge gathering tips from tourists before plunging into the river below.

The center piece of the town, the recontructed bridge is an impressive engineering feat, as well as a scenic pass above the river. People jump off it, but you have to know the currents and conditions well beforehand. It looks way higher from the top.

There are four important things to know about the bridge:
-First of all, it was constructed by the ottoman in 1557-1566, and, at
the time of its completion it was the largest man-made arch bridge
in the world;
-Second, it was destroyed completely in the Balkan Wars in 1993. It
took 60 shells of heavy artillery to collapse it. In 2001-2004,
the bridge was reconstructed as the original, using salvaged pieces
from the bottom of the river and local materials. It has since been
declared an Unesco World Heritage Site.
-Third, the bridge is most spectacular as seen from afar, not while
crossing it, as it stands some 24 meters above the river, and has
a 30 meters span.
-Fourth and finally, there is a group of people that live there, that
jumps into the river from the bridge. If you are daring enough you
could try it, but beware that you will be jumping from 24 meters
into a water that is very, very cold.
Back to the old town, there are many shops, as stated before, where
you can buy souvenirs, most of them traditional, or related to the war
and the communist years of Yugoslavia. There are some nice cafes and
restaurants (Tip: try the local Cevapcici, you would not regret it). You could also visit the mosque, and i recommend you to do that, because from the courtyard are some of the nicest views of the Old Bridge.

Lovely bridge with beautiful views of the river and surrounding valley. Be forewarned though, this bridge is a little precarious to walk. It's quite steep and the steps are a bit strange. Thankfully, if you grab onto the railing you should be fine. It's quite amazing to see the locals springing across while the rest of us are happy to get to the top!
