It's a walk through the sad history of one of world's worst homicide. Try to walk with a friend as some part can be scary and eerie.

One of the most important, though devastating, museums in the whole of the world. Make sure you don't miss this when in Phnom Penh, though be prepared for a heavy morning or afternoon.

It's always hard to write about dark tourism. I've rated this 5 stars not because "I loved it" but because it's one of those places you have to visit if you're in Phnom Penh. This was previously a high school that was later turned into the largest incarceration center in the country. Thousands of prisoners passed through these doors and were kept in the various torchere rooms. It's chilling walking around this museum, but humanity needs to remember so that we can continue moving forward.

This museum actually is a school but Pol Pot used it to killed and tortured the innocent people especially teachers, doctors, lawyers, headmaster, headmistress singers and more...

Eye-opening. Request a tour, and it will be led by someone who has personal stories to tell. For the rest of the day, and whenever you think of it later, you will carry a little more weight on your chest.

I certainly didn't "love it" but it is a must-see if you are in Phnom Penh. A sad memorial to Cambodia's tragic past and the torture that took place under the Khmer Rouge. Like the Killing Fields, hard to leave here with dry eyes.

We spent the day in PP visiting the famous killing fields and S-21 prison. Both places we're very sad but also great experiences. I didn't know much about what had happened before we visited and now I can't believe that something like this could happen and not even very long ago. This is def a must-do if you're in PP. We hired a tuk tuk driver to take us to both for 12 (for 2ppl). We thought this was fair as it took more than half a day and the killing fields were pretty far.

shocking. tips:u dont need no guides.everything is written down on the wall. the local english guide is a middle age woman barely speaks english and will charge u for 6 dollars. at the end she ll lead you to a survivor who can speak no english and asking you to buy his pamphlet for 10 dollars....anyway, it's just so sad that this survivor had to sell his misery to sport his life now, sitting in front of his hell.

Prior to 1975 Toul Sleng was a high school but under the Khmer Rouge it was used as a torture facility. The building now serves as a museum and a memorial. Photos of some of the victims as well as paintings by a survivor hang on the walls. The complex has been preserved as the KR left it

An important reminder of the evil present in the world. I have never been shaken as much I have been looking the pictures of the people who've died here. The children wall was especially hard to look at. It is reminder that we must try to keep human dignity in times of peaces and war.

Very interesting but shocking, you dare not speak or express themselves in it but this is a must when you visiting Phnom Penh, it's just part of the country's history

Once a public school, the Khmer Rouge turned Tuol Sleng into one of its primary prisons and interrogation centers. Today it is a museum detailing the country's recent genocide, and although it's not easy to walk through these halls, it's a crucial component of any effort to understand modern Cambodia and its psychology. Classrooms were turned into torture chambers, and much of the machinery is still there for you to see. The larger rooms feature posters with thousands of black-and-white images of victims. Parts of the compound still resemble a school, but the barbed wire wrapped around balconies is a constant reminder of its corruption. You'll likely need some time to process all of it, and fortunately the (terrific) Boddhi Tree restaurant is waiting for you right across the street.

The Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) was one of the most disturbing museums that I've ever encountered (and that's the point). The images of the victims and visiting the prison cells is just downright creepy and depressing. I did meet one of the few remaining survivors, and it was amazing to see his spirit and strength intact. Come here with open eyes and hope that this will never happen again.

This sight was a peaceful high school until 1975 when the Khmer Rouge aroused to power and transformed the institution into the S-21 prison and interrogation facility. This decaying building is now a museum and a memorial for the thousands of victims that there once stood. The photographs, annotations and torture objects in display are so fresh and shocking that profoundly saddens the soul of the visitor.

Difficult to visit this site but for any traveler who finds value in understanding the true history of the exotic locals they visit, this is a must in Phnom Penh. Make sure to be paired with one of the guides at the museum, they are extremely knowledgeable and greatly enhanced our experience touring the museum. Most of the guides lived through the Khmer Rouge regime and not only share their historical knowledge but their personal experiences.
