The Pavilion

A great hotel in the centre of the city with lots of history and heritage about it. The rooms were spacious and clean, the windows allowed lots of natural light through so we were very happy. We extended two more nights as we like it so much.

We spent four nights in Phnom Penh at The Pavilion hotel. Apparently the mother of King Sihanouk built this place in the 1920s in the colonial style that was popular at the time. It’s only a stone’s throw from the Royal Palace, so perhaps she wanted to keep a close eye on her young son! It’s in a fantastic location, with the cafes and restaurants of St. 240 only a 5 minute walk up the road, Central market perhaps a 20 minute walk to the north, and Tuol Sleng (the Genocide Museum) a 25 minute walk to the south west. Of course tuk tuks are everywhere if you don’t feel like walking in the tropical heat, or in the event of a sudden monsoonal downpour! This place will cost you a little more than others, but in our opinion it was well worth it.
