My first time in a public museum. Great experience! Lots to see: animation exhibit, Asian artifacts, modern art and sculpture... And lots of people there. Went around noon on a Sunday.

Recently visited this museum. It is much bigger than it looks. I saw the Rodan exhibit which was great. They have a little of everything.

This place has really amazing and interesting art from many different eras. I particularly loved the Renaissance works, and the Ancient Greek mythology pottery

Great museum with many beautiful works of art. A continued agreement with Mark Rothko's children will help fund a large expansion to PAM — The 20-year agreement with Rothko’s children, Christopher Rothko and Kate Rothko Prizel, to loan major Rothko paintings in rotation from their private collection. Whether or not that leads to an eventual gift of major paintings, it makes it possible for Portland museum visitors to see and study first-hand the work of a leading innovator in 20th century art who grew up and graduated from high school here before moving to New York to take part in an artistic revolution. “Our family is thrilled to enter into this partnership with the museum,” Christopher Rothko said in a prepared statement from the museum. “Portland played a formative role in my father’s youth, and we are eager to share these works with the public and give Rothko a more active role in the vibrant cultural life of this city.”

17 and under go free on Friday evenings, everyone else $5. Cheap Friday evening with cool art, some big names and a great modern art section. Nice giftshop.

I visited the museum when there was the exposition of "La Bella" of the Italian painter Tiziano. Being myself Italian, and loving museums, it was an interesting place to visit. There are plenty of styles and periods, pretty amusing.

Portland Art Museum, located in the heart of downtown Portland, offers free admission nights on the last Friday of every month from 5-8pm. There is also a very lovely, tree/green heavy park located along side the museum for an early dinner before the museum or a romantic or calming stroll after the museum.

The Portland Art Museum was founded in 1892 and currently has a total of 240,000 square feet of space and a permanent collection of around 42,000 works of art. The PAM features centers for Native American art, Northwest art, and modern and contemporary art, as well as permanent exhibitions of Asian art, and an outdoor public sculpture garden. The Northwest Film Center is also a component of Portland Art Museum. So are sponsorships, as every wing or collection seem to be named after someone.

I came here a few hours one afternoon and just before it was time to take the Max back to PDX and then home. There's lots of interesting art to ponder, although the paths through the 2 main buildings (including the basement connection between) makes for a sometimes disjointed museum experience. I felt lost at many junctures, and although I mostly allowed myself to wander happily around, I finally reached a point when all I wanted to know was how to get out.

I was particularly impressed with the Modern Art that is contained in the Mark Building, an old Masonic Temple that is architecturally stunning (at least from the outside) in its own right. At the same time, this Modern part of the PAM doesn't have the "Wow" factor that I experience when I'm at the SF-MOMA. Yet, considering the mess that they've made of SF's De Young (IMHO), I'd rather be here for that part of my art appreciation. Maybe that's part of the happy menagerie that this slice of Portlandia has to offer.

So overall, I really enjoyed having this huge range of art under 2 roofs and experiencing the surrounding Cultural District architecture and green belt beauty. One other thing I know for sure is that I need to come back and peel another layer from this art onion.

Always a great collection going on here regardless of the featured artist or theme. I loved having a membership in college and used it often. It's always hard to pay full price not, but worth it.

A nice, museum with interesting art exhibits. When I went, the curator provided a lively tour of the Asian art exhibits. I felt like I was getting an introductory lesson on ancient Asian history. Also, I really dig the leaning sailboats as pieces of art.

I like the Portland Art Museum. When I lived in Vancouver, we would visit Portland quite a bit because of proximity and the art museum was one of the places to go. I enjoyed the layout and the collection which does include a rotating exhibition. Check it out for some culture while you're in the city.

A decent museum. The permanent collection here is nothing special, but they have interesting temporary exhibitions from time to time. They also host events.
