Visiting museums is my passion. I love the history, art and creativity of people on display.

After visiting the Kidseum (Bowers Museum for kid's). I only had to pay an additional $5 for me (kid's under 10? are free). That's a bargain.

I love the water feature at the courtyard, it was so tranquil and peaceful. I could sit there all day.

The museum has different exhibit halls that would peak anyone's interest. It is smaller than other museums, but they have so many things to see.

My son got bored, it's more for adults for sure.
I loved it. I have to come back and leave my rugrat at home. Lol.

Came here to check out the mummy exhibition and the museum itself was super small. Just wish there was more to look at.

I didn't know about this museum until I drove pass it on the way to Main Place Mall. Bowers Museum, I feel, is a little smaller than other museums I've been to. Brought my kids there and they were bored out of their minds haha. Probably best for me to take them when they are older.

Wonderful place to learn about California History and see up and coming exhibits. You can spend about a day or half a day at the museum. They also have a nice restaurant to eat after you're done browsing.

The Bowers Museum is Orange County's largest museum and is free on the first Sunday of the month! It is also free for Santa Ana residents every Sunday and children under 12 are always free. The beautiful, mission-style museum is home to a unique niche of art relevant to California: African, South Pacific, Asian, Native American, pre-Columbian art, California plein-air paintings and Orange County history. It has frequent events such as family cultural arts festivals, lectures, film series, symposia, and teacher workshops. It has rotating cultural exhibits, a sculpture garden, and a separate interactive children's museum next door. There is paid parking in their lots, but plenty of meters on the street too.

A true testament to internationalism. The Bowers Museum features collections from around the world, in their ongoing effort to provide an opportunity to examine cultures of the world.

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana is more than just a place to come on a fourth grade school field trip. It's one of Orange County's best art and history museums, with exhibits ranging from traditional Japanese bamboo sculpture to hands-on exhibits exploring one of the most exciting times in California's history: the Gold Rush of the 1800s. And as with most museums, the Bowers gift shop is like a separate gallery in its own right, with high-quality art prints and envy-inducing coffee table books.

A beautiful Spanish-style museum in downtown Santa Ana that doesn't get nearly the attention it should. Worth a visit.

Bowers Museum is known for their Terra Cotta warriors exhibit they show during the summer but did you know they have other relics on display? They have some Aztec, Mayan, Chinese artifacts and revolving exhibits. Tickets are $15 for the weekend and $13 during the weekday. Add a few bucks and you can go to their specially-ticketed exhibitions ($20).

This is not your usual museum that is focus in European culture or artwork, instead this focus in Asian and the Pacific Island culture.

The museum located in downtown Santa Ana, the area is clean and pretty well maintain. Unlike some of the museum, I been too, that felt a bit unsafe going there in certain time of the day. They charge for parking in their lot, but you can find free 2 hours parking in the street easily, if not just go meter which probably still cheaper their the lot parking.

I think is best go there during Target free Sunday promotion day, which occur every first Sunday of the month. You get some free entertainment performance plus the free admission. It wasn’t too crowded as I might be worry.

The museum exhibit is decent size, not too big or small. You don’t had walk long distance to see all their exhibitions. The thing you find in this museum that you rarely find other, is the pacific island artifacts, very large collection they got. Some of their artifacts is quite breathtaking like the giant mask and those creppy looking human teeth necklaces…

My friend really wanted to see the Sacred Realms painting, which is paint by the famous Nepal monk. The painting is marvelous and very attention to details, there is even a time-lapse video that show how he did it from scratch to finish.
Offering free day during Sunday is great way to bring your entire family and you don’t need to worry much about traffic coming back and forth that you do during weekday. I looking forward to coming back when the Sanxingdui exhibit is open in sometime this fall.

By the way, camera is allow almost all exhibit, so don't forgot to bring it !.

The Bowers Museum belies the image of Orange County as a cultural wasteland. This relatively small museum consistently has special exhibits one expects to see in some of the Los Angeles museums, for example, its Faberge exhibit. Among its permanent collections, the Ancient Arts of China and California art collections are of special interest.

I spent hours at the Bowers.

Today was free admission because Target sponsors Free Admission Sundays on the first Sunday of every month. This month, New Year's was on the first Sunday, so Free Admission was pushed back a week. My main interest was checking out the Warriors, Tombs & Temples Terracotta Warriors.

The Warriors, Tombs & Temples temporary exhibit was fairly large w/many sculptures. I accidentally took a pic w/flash and alarm bells sounded. I felt like there was a jail break or prison riot. One of the staff just told everyone "No flash photography", not knowing I was the one who did it. Wheew! I still had my anonymity. I noticed that as I was browsing other sections of the Terracotta Warrior exhibit, the alarm went off quite a few more times. Thankfully, it wasn't me. There was also a large sculpture of the Medicine Buddha, which I have posted, which I really enjoyed.

I was fascinated by the Scrimshaw Whaling exhibit. The bones and teeth of sperm whales, porpoises and seals were used to make a myriad of household items and artwork. Some items included spoons/forks, clothespins, pie crimpers & salt/pepper shakers. The artwork on whale bone was simply beautiful.

The Spirit & Headhunters exhibit was interesting, too. Masks, weapons & statues were on display. I didn't notice the human teeth necklace, or if I did see it, I wasn't aware the necklace was made from human teeth. Some of the weapons were pretty bad-ass!

The Secrets of the Silk Road exhibit was my second favorite exhibit, behind the Warriors, Tombs & Temples. The skill & dexterity showcased on the intricately carved elephant tusks is truly remarkable. Seems like artistry on that level has been lost to antiquity. There were sculptures of horses & camels that were quite lifelike. There is also an exquisite chess set, too.

The permanent exhibits were nice to check out, such as Pio Pico's carriage. However, I didn't spend as much time there as I did in the featured exhibits.

Funny note-there is a guy dressed as a Terracotta warrior (see pic) that takes pictures with people by the entrance & he periodically walks around the museum. As the Terracotta warrior walked toward a corner, a teenage woman was also turning the corner on the opposite side & she jumped as he walked by. Classic!

I enjoyed my time at the Bowers Museum. However, I think the cost of admission is a little too pricy. My recommendation - Check it out during Free Admission First Sunday!
