Having viewed from the North and South side. The North provides a much better experience in my opinion. Firstly more of the historic sites are on the north side such as North Korea Peace Museum - the site where the armistice was signed. Obviously there's 99% less tourists. Less obviously the North Korean soldiers are much more relaxed and jovial than the US GI's on the South Korea side who seem to want to provide an atmosphere of intimidation.

The DMZ is a buffer zone between one of the few remaining divided countries: North and South Korea. The border runs 250km (160 miles), and the DMZ is only about 4km (2.5 miles) wide. Though this narrow thread of land is demilitarized, beyond the strip is one of the most heavily militarized borders in the world.

Great. A must do. U really can feel the history as u r going through the sites. Tours are actually very informative n well done. ( I went through USO)
It's well worth it to get the extended tour with visit to JSA/Panmunjom- u will be just steps away from N. Korea (DPRk)!!! Actually saw North Korean soldiers *** u will sign a waiver as it is still a high security area*** it's all very exciting!

Took a tour while stationed there and it was quite entertaining. It's leaves an even greater impact knowing you're literally standing few hundred yards away from the DMZ

DMZ consists of a long line of tours through several places to view the border separating North and South Korea. Tours include a hike into one of the North Korean attack tunnels found by South Korea.

It's hard to say I like it, because being a split country is not exactly a good thing, but it was definitely the most interesting thing I've done in Korea.

I highly recommend going on a tour to this particular area if you're ever in Korea. The DMZ, JSA, or both tours can be booked in Lotte Hotel. DMZ tour can be booked a day before, while the JSA must be booked 3 or more days prior to the tour date. We only booked the JSA tour, btw. It cost us about 16,000 won, if I reckon correctly. It was well worth it though! The tour guide took us first to the War Memorial of Korea museum, then we went off to a restaurant near DMZ. Afterwards, we went ahead to the border. The tour made us learn more about the history of Korea - it was definitely quite an experience! Must say that it was definitely tense when we went to the border. Quite scary! You'll be given a paper to sign beforehand that if anything happens to you during the tour (e.g. get hurt or die), they will not be held responsible. Lol. XD Needless to say, just follow your tour guide's instructions and you'll be fine. XD

I personally do not think that the DMZ is the most exciting tourist attraction in the world. However, it is one of the most interesting. The DMZ is the most heavily militarized area in the world and is built up by a coalition of ROK and US Army soldiers. It separates two countries that are technically still at war.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking a bus tour, otherwise you will not get access to most of the cool places without a military ID.

What a reminder to us that we still have a war going on in Korea. Don't miss this tour if you're a history buff or just interested in how world politics work.

From the South, you can see the largest flag in the world across the border, which is quite a sight to see. Visit the tunnels and the bridge used to exchange prisoners across the border. Hope you also get to see the Dorosan train station, which was built for the eventual day when people can cross freely across.

Despite its name, the DMZ is actually the most heavily militarized border in the world and serves as a buffer between North and South Korea. With soldiers on both sides monitoring each other, it often has a tense and serious mood to it which is enhanced by the list of strict rules and guidelines that visitors are required to follow. You'll be able to learn more in-depth about the DMZ's history while given a sobering reminder that the two Koreas are technically still at war.

US President Bill Clinton called it the "scariest place on earth." I don't know if I'd go that far but it is pretty amazing. Do. Not. Skip.

We enjoyed our visit to the DMZ where we got a chance to experience the tunnel and to learn more about the history and relationships between the North and the South.

The DMZ is an impressive sight to see. The tour is interesting and includes going into the conference room that lies across the line. So one can literally stand in North Korea.

The ROK guards are impressive with their stance and demeanor.

One of the most intriguing places I have ever been to. If you are in Korea you must make a trip here and experience the tension between the North and South and really live first-hand a little piece of history in front of you. You must come here.

If ever in Seoul, this is a must-do. The demilitarized zone is the closest you'll get to visiting North Korea as you can from South Korea, and it's super interesting what you'll see and learn there regarding the two countries' conflicts. The guards stationed there are posing just for show and don't actually stay there when tourists aren't around. Glad they were in my picture though!

Talk about standing between two countries. The only parallel that is still existing.

Strange... Really don't know how to describe it. I have mixed feeling about it. The Dorsan Station was my favorite part because it implies hope. I'm glad I did it though. I definitively recommend doing some reading about the Korean War and the history between North and South Korea so you can fully understand where is that you are standing and the significance it had.

A reminder of the nearly forgotten war, a tour through one of the underground tunnels is not only a reminder but a reality check. For those looking for different stamps in their passports, the DMZ has its own stamp.

Panmunjom, or the Joint Security Area, is within the DMZ and is one of the strangest places I have ever been. Seeing the South Korean soldiers facing off against the North (and a North Korean guy staring at you through binoculars) is chilling and tense. If you really want to get a good feeling for the situation between North and South Korea, come here.
