Off the main road, overlooking the ocean, you can find a curious monument close to Tagbilaran City. This is the Sandugo or Blood Compact monument, which depicts the meeting between local tribal leaders from Bohol and the Spanish explorers, and later colonisers who first arrived on the island in the 16th century. The Sandugo was a lasting sign of friendship between the two people and today it has huge significance amongst local heritage and traditions, as the event would shape the next 300 years of colonial history in the region.
Sandugo means "one blood." This is the site on the island of Bohol where the Filipinos and Spaniards made their first treaty. A blood compact was performed to seal their friendship. A monument depicting the history of the historical event stands here today. A must visit site while in Bohol.
