The famous Cabbage Jade Sculpture is located here. Carved from a single piece of Jade.

This was great to see Chinese arts and treasures kept by Taiwan. Although many of Chinese arts, crafts or paintings have been stolen and destroyed by British and French.

At the National Palace Museum is where visitors could see the artifacts and national treasures that are missing in the Forbidden Palace in Beijing. These treasures would have likely be destroyed during the cultural revolution had it not already been transported to Taiwan before the uprising.

The National Palace Museum has an unparalleled collection spanning millennia of Chinese civilization. The collection was taken by the Nationalists before being chased out by the Communists from mainland China. The highlights include bronze cauldrons, porcelain, jade carvings, silk screen paintings, ceramics, stone carving, religious art, and plenty more. So the collection has very little to with Taiwan and everything to do with China. Give yourself 2-3 hours minimum. The museum is usually packed.

I had the opportunity to visit the National Palace Museum on the last morning in Taipei before I left. Travelling to the NPM was not long, I probably spent about two hours in there trying to absorb details of the antiques and understanding the history. It was an insightful trip.

has one of the largest collections in the world. the museum's exhibited collection though is quite small. as the museum has quite a small footprint, it can get packed and noisy which isn't ideal. special exhibitions as they're ticketed will be less busy but still worthwhile.

All though well in the museum - a special design for kids to learn via playing about the museum. Activities are designing to increase kids cruriousity, and earn their understanding with Chinese history. Recommend for age 22 - 100. [I'm 30ish and I'm enjoying the place LOL]

Amazing collection of artifacts of the history of Taiwan. We did the audio tour and enjoyed it. Some of the rooms get crowded when there's a group tour, so be ready to dodge and squeeze your way around.

This art museum has an insanely large collection of ancient Chinese artifacts. It can be slightly overwhelming, and I'd recommend focusing on a few areas to tackle instead of thinking you're going to see everything. I know the museum is quite famous for the Jade Cabbage, but I thought it was a little underwhelming and considering the sculpture is unknown (and so small!), I'm wondering how it became popular. What is impressive, however, is the architecture of this building - it is right to call it a palace and nothing less.

When Chiang Kai-shek fled to Taiwan in 1931, he also brought along the world's largest collection of ancient Chinese artifacts. Today, the National Palace Museum houses this collection. It'll take a whole day—and a good pair of walking shoes—to take in all the artwork at the museum, but it is well-worth it. You won't find a more well-preserved and more comprehensive collection of Chinese art anywhere else.

The collections are fantastic and there is enough descriptive matter in English so it is possible to get by. I'm just not a museum person. I felt a bit guilty about getting bored given the quality and history of the items. The architecture is something to behold. If you want an English language guided tour the website says to make arrangements three days in advance. Self-guided English language tours are available.

You need to spend a full day to see all the pieces in this museum. but there were so many group tourists that it was not easy just to get in front of the window. but still great place to see the history.

Remarkable collection of porcelain from the Chinese Imperial Court among the ~ 700,000 pieces in this museum, established by the Nationalists following Emporer Puyi's expulsion from the Forbidden City.

When I went to this museum, most of it was closed to the public. They were doing renovations. But I did get to see the pork stone and the jade cabbage, the two most famous pieces there. It would have been nice to have an explanation of why they're so famous. A lot of really neat Chinese crafts are housed here.

Tourist Central but I LOVED it!!!! The only complaint I have is that lines were like Disneyland. I have never stood in so many lines inside a museum to get into each room! It was unbelievable.

Rather than touch up on the actual museum itself, I wanted to talk about their gift shop. OMG, their gift shop was not only huge, it was amazing and had the most beautiful souvenirs. I bought so much high quality gifts (more like gifts for myself). I purchased a beautiful scarf with some sort of Taiwanese artwork and lettering and also a gorgeous bag for my friend with the coolest artwork on it. I can't really explain in detail, you just have to go and see for yourself. If you go to the National Palace Museum, do not leave without checking out the gift shop.

I went here back in 2008. It's a world class collection of many treasures "exported out" of China during the Communist Revolution. The impressive collection needs to be viewed over the course of a couple of visits; hundreds of years of art is difficult to take in one passing.

This museum houses some of the most amazing and in-tact artifacts from the history of China. The museum is built into the side of a mountain, which is where these artifacts were stored to ensure their safety against raids during the war. To this day, people come from China to view these exhibits of their history. You can easily get lost in here during an entire day.

The main attractions here are on the 3rd floor -- the famous jade carvings of a cabbage and another one that looks like a piece of stewed pork. Also on the 3rd floor is the 17 layer concentric ball carved out of ivory, which was mind-boggling to look at and wonder how someone ever made that out of a single piece of ivory. For those popular items on the 3rd floor, you have to line up for your turn into the rooms where these items are displayed -- but the line moves fast and it's worth it!

There is also a tea house on the 4th floor for you to take a rest and enjoy some tea!

This museum houses some incredible Chinese antiquities dating back about four to five thousand years. They do have 90 minute English tours daily and it's a good way to get an overall view of their most significant treasures.
