On one of the coldest days so far this year, the Garden Inn's lobby fireplace warmed me up quickly. It's staff was equally as warm and friendly - happy to answer any questions. The hotel is modestly modern - and in an incredibly central location for tourists and businesspeople alike.
I'd recommend one of the bigger, more "executive" rooms if you feel like splurging. It has windows that actually open (a surprisingly rare hotel feature) and a whirlpool IN the bedroom as well as a fireplace - if those aren't essential features of a mid-winter escape, I don't know what is. Every room has a Keurig coffee maker - a nice bonus and what seems to be a popular hotel staple. There's a nice looking restaurant with a separate lounge area - a bit more intimate - good for private events.
Nice and quite big rooms, with very nice bathrooms. Almost quiet when you consider where the hotel is located. Breakfast was nice but way to expensive for what it is. The swimming pool can't really be called a swimming pool, it's way to small to be able to swim for exercise.
The Hilton Garden in is definitely a budget hotel - unassuming from the front, not much in the way of character or charm in the building (generic decor, neutral coloring, recently built), but very moderately priced! The Garden Inn is Hilton's lower line of hotels, but considering it's still a Hilton, you can expect the rooms to be clean, roomy, and filled with the basic amenities such as comfy beds, internet access, and, at least in the room that I saw, a Jacuzzi style tub!
The rest of the hotel is also fairly basic - swimming pool (looks like a condo pool), fitness centre, and restaurant (there are a ton of better options throughout the city though!). However, considering the price and the location, these are parts that you will most likely never see anyways!
Best/worst thing: location! Peter St. & King St. is pretty much in the middle of the clubbing district. Great if you are young and want to party in the city. Not so good if you have anything to do in the morning, or are trying to avoid the loud and sometimes obnoxious drunks...
This is a basic, functional hotel right downtown. Being a part of the Hilton chain, it has a lot of amenities, but little personality. There's a pool and whirlpool, a fitness centre, a business centre and a restaurant (which was empty when I popped in). The rooms are simple and beige, and are pretty much what you'd expect from a second-rate Hilton - nothing funky or exciting to be found, but spacious and clean. The best -- or worst, depending on who you are --part of this hotel is the location: it's literally right in the middle of the "Entertainment District," which is Toronto's euphemism for the vast land of mega-clubs downtown. From Thursday to Sunday, this area is overrun with drunk twenty-somethings, and it can be annoyingly loud if you're trying to get a good night's sleep, but super-convenient if you don't want to leave the downtown core.
