Lugar maravilhoso, um dia antes da visita ao salar choveu. Na água empoçada refletia a imagem do céu e nuvens no chão, deu um efeito visual sensacional, as fotos ficaram lindas e divertidas.

As spectacular as the photos you’ve seen. The world’s largest salt flat is well worth the effort to see. Stay at least one night.

When I was planning a trip to Bolivia, this place was my main motivation to go to Bolivia. When I got there, I am glad I did it. It was amazing to see it in person. I found out there were also 3 day tours to the south of the Salt Flats which covers the Atacama Desert also, ok, that will have to be on the list for now!

I've experienced few places as magical as Salar de Uyuni. This is one of the main draws for tourists visiting the country and for good reason. These expansive salt flats contort the horizon and make depth perception a distant memory. It's a harsh, bare terrain that produces photographs that look like the surface of the moon.

If there is a place that can't be missed in Bolivia, it is the Salar the Uyuni. It simply is a stunning place of incredible beauty, that has a magic, mystic and surreal aura. It takes your breath away - quite literally, given the altitude! This is where travelers enjoy taking funny pictures. Tours normally start at 9:00 am and last for a few days, but it is possible to also have a sunrise tour as well and this is recommended for the incredible light!

Located in the southwest corner of Bolivia the Salar de Uyuni is the largest slat flat in the world, by far. (4,100 sq miles) The landscape is surreal in its vastness and beauty. The sunsets are amazing and the sky at night, have never seen so many stars! Team up with a group and travel the Salar by vehicle and head south also down to Laguna Colorado with its volcanic peaks and pink flamingos. Very special.

The Bolivian salt flats have to be not only one of the travel highlights in the country, but in the whole of South America. Be prepared for some of the most beautiful landscapes you are ever likely to see, with every twist and turn in your 4x4 jeep, rewarding you with breathtaking views. Visiting in the dry season is impressive, when the salt flats appear incredibly white under the glow of the sun. However, the best season to be there is in the rainy season, when the water reflects the skyline off the flats. Either way, Salar de Uyuni, is an absolute must!

Waking up at 6 in the morning we drive from our salt hotel to enter Uyuni, the biggest salt flat in the world. We arrive right in the time for sunrise! It's greasing outside and the winds are very strong, but the scenery is just breathtaking!

When a prehistoric lake dried up about 30,000 years ago, it left an endless expanse of white hexagonal tiles that stretch to the horizon. Welcome to the world’s largest salt flat, stretching for 4,000 square miles—25 times the size of Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats. The site provides more than 25,000 tons of salt per year to local miners, supports a thriving community of thousands of flamingos, and attracts tourists who can check into the Palacio de Sal, a 16-room hotel made entirely from salt blocks.

Do not miss visiting this amazing landscape. Here are a few tips:

FLY HERE. Do not come here by bus overnight, like so many first timers do. It SUCKS. The bus ride is so effing dangerous and scary and there is no paved road for the most part and it's bumpy as hell. If you're a backpacker and you think this is an adventure, go ahead. I warned you though.

Do not drink alcohol at night thinking that it will warm you because you will have a hangover for three days (altitude makes drinking unbearable). Unless you've already acclimatized in La Paz, beware of alcohol or any other sort of drug of choice. It's different up here. Yes you will have nightmares and see ghosts and other hallucinations with just your sober mind.

TIP generously. The city of Uyuni is one of the poorest cities in Bolivia. Ironically all the tour centers either ship out all their money back to La Paz, or they keep it for themselves. I got to personally get to know some of the locals living in Uyuni and they're ailing. Any sort of aid or donation should go to the city, not to the tour guides or the centers. If you want to make a donation, go to the cafe La Vicuna and tell the couple there that you want to help the city. They will give the money to the city. They're really good people who want to help their community. Trust me on this.

You may get annoyed by trinket sellers, and the mandatory stop before going on the trip to the Salar but try to buy as much stuff as possible. This is their livelihood.

Take lots of pictures. And videos. Don't go off on your own. People get lost and die here. Compasses don't work right because of the amount of lithium underneath the salt flats.

Giant salt flat in Bolivia's alti-plano not far from the Chilean border. The salt flats are stark and beautiful, and one of Bolivia's biggest tourist attractions. Your visualization experience will change depending on the season you visit the flats. I recommend trying to visit during the rainy season when you can get the stunning visual of a thin layer of water covering the flats and creating a massive natural mirror.

This is one of the most amazing landscapes I have ever seen. I saw it during the dry season, and it was like an endless sea of salt, with a crazy island in the middle (Isla del pescado). It looks super cool in the wet season too when it is covered by water, and looks like a mirror. Be very careful who you book this tour with though, as 4x4s often break down out there, and then you are really stuck in a very desolite place.

Surreal! 3,500 meters above sea level on the Bolivian Altiplano, Salar de Uyuni is one of the most awe-inspiring sites you'll see anywhere in the world. Along with Copacabana/Isla del Sol, it is possibly the most visited tour destination in Bolivia. The sheer size of the salt flats is just mind-boggling, it covers 12,000 square kilometers and is visible from space! The Uyuni salt beds contain 10 billion tons of salt, making it the largest salt desert in the world. Uyuni isn't only about salt, you can also check out the mud pits and geysers in the area.

Salar de Uyuni. All it took was once glance at a picture of this place and I was there within a couple years. I would have my wedding right out there in wet season if I could. An absolutely stunning expanse of nothing but clear blue sky and white clouds, above and below you. And when it's dry, it's a snow white desert. The best way to do the tour is to take the 3 day tour and have them drop you off at the Chilean border. If not they spend the last day straight shot driving all the way back to Uyuni (town).
