Practical pre-flight stop with great breakfast
I stayed one night at Scandic Hell and would rate the experience 4/5. It works very well as a practical conference and airport hotel, but it lacks that little extra warmth and polish that would earn a full score.
The location is excellent: it’s an easy 10-minute walk to the terminal, and on-site parking right outside the hotel makes arrival and departure straightforward.
My family room (no. 530), as shown in my photo of the room, was adequately sized, clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed. However, the bathroom felt on the chilly side even with underfloor heating on, and the shower water pressure was disappointingly weak.This was an inward-facing room and noise carried up from the restaurant/bar area until about 01:00, which did affect sleep quality.
Service at check-in was polite but rather unengaged; it missed the small touches that make you feel genuinely welcomed after a lo ng travel day.
Breakfast, on the other hand, was a clear highlight. The buffet offered an excellent selection of hot and cold dishes, and despite the dining room being busy that morning, it was still possible to find a free table and enjoy the meal at a relaxed pace. At around NOK 1900 for one night, the stay felt reasonable value for a short layover or pre-flight stop.
What could be improved
• Better sound insulation from the bar/restaurant areas.
• A warmer, more engaging welcome at reception to set a better first impression.
Final verdict: I would stay here again before an early flight and can recommend Scandic Hell if you prioritise convenience and a very good breakfast over character and absolute quiet.
If you go
Ask for an upper-floor room facing the fjord to minimise internal noise and enjoy a better outlook.
Make time to fully enjoy the excellent breakfast buffet, and aim to go slightly earlier to avoid the busiest period.

Stayed for one night on a road trip. Swimming pool requires booking in advance. Very good breakfast.

Dirty room and rude service
Little nice receptionist who claimed that we had not informed that we had a dog with us. She also said that this was a pet-free hotel, where she immediately afterwards gave us a room we could have with the dog on.
The room we got was not cleaned and there was dirty bathroom and contact lenses lying on the table and floor. I was complaining about it and was told that they had no other room for us so they had to clean it. Half an hour later we were told the room was ready. But it was still dirty and the contact lenses were still there. I was talking to the guy who had washed the room and he said it was me who put the contact lens there.
When I saw the complaining again they suddenly had free room for us and it was even clean.
The room we got was not cleaned and there was dirty bathroom and contact lenses lying on the table and floor. I was complaining about it and was told that they had no other room for us so they had to clean it. Half an hour later we were told the room was ready. But it was still dirty and the contact lenses were still there. I was talking to the guy who had washed the room and he said it was me who put the contact lens there.
When I saw the complaining again they suddenly had free room for us and it was even clean.

Freaky and quarreling receptionists and unwashed rooms
I came here with my family with our dog who we had written that was included in the comment during our order. There was nothing stating that they did not have a dog room, but when we arrived the lady in the reception was unnecessarily freaky said that those we had to tell in advance if we had a dog with us and that the comment during the order was not enough because they “did not read them”. She said they might be able to find a room for us and when we get to the room it was obvious that it was their own dog/animal flew. We enter the room and it is not washed, there are contact lenses on both floor and table and in the sink in the bathroom there is dirt and a lot of hair. One of the chairs to the room was also full of dog hair. We go to complaints at the front desk and they are not nice at all and avoid as best they can to be helpful. They said they had no more rooms and that we had to wait until they could wash ours, after 15 minutes it should have been rolled but the contact lenses and other shit was left. Then they suddenly had a room further down the hallway. Do not recommend this hotel for those travelling with pets or for those who enjoy pleasant service from the staff.

Hotel with atmosphere
Great hotel that we keep coming back to!Taken a night here on the way to Surnadal,and we got a lovely buffet with us in the evening.
