I came here in the high season in August and could not wait to leave. The town is small and charming, but in summer is so overrun with tourists that it is totally overwhelming. If deciding where to stay in Skye, I would recommend quieter towns further from the mainland.
The main town on the Isle of Skye is so picturesque with colorful & quaint buildings, historic houses and B&B's, This is a tender port for cruise ships. After walking around the town, we took a local (i.e. inexpensive) bus to nearby Dunvegan Castle - not to be missed!
Portree is an adorable little harbor town. The cute colored houses on the water were meant for stunning waterfront photo opps. Stay at the Rosedale Hotel and you'll be welcomed with a glass of whisky or sherry. Funky little Cafe Arriba makes for a great breakfast spot.
Portree is a port and cultural centre on the Isle of Skye. Portree is Skye's main town and a popular destination for visitors. It has a swimming pool, pony-trekking, boat cruises and plenty of shops. It is particularly good for locally produced arts and crafts. The Aros Centre offers theatre, concerts and films as well as an exhibition capturing Skye's dramatic history and an aerial view of Skye's incredible landscapes. The town is good for exploring the rest of the island.
