A quaint seaside town that makes a great jumping-off point for daytrips to both the Curonian Spit and beaches of Smiltyne
Klaipeda is an old seaside town with lots of character, it's also the closest place to get over to the Curonian Spit. It's a 5 minute ferry ride, you can take your bicycle across. Loved this place
We eventually arrived at the cute seaside town of Klaipėda. During the Prussian time, Klaipėda was called Memel. It was from the balcony of the Drama Theater where Hitler proclaimed, in 1939, that the surrounding lands were now back in German hands (which is where they had been under the Second Reich). Today, a few German wooden houses testify to the German period.
