Great ski resort with a lovely little town just down the road that provides a friendly, local ski experience that you will not get in Summit County.
The debate over the highest town in the United States is waged between a few sleepy bergs in Colorado. The current champion is Winter Park, which wrested the title from Alma, Colorado when it included its ski resort within the town limits. While underhanded, there is more to do in Winter Park.
The town of Winter Park has a decent variety of lodging, eating , and shopping options but isn't really a destination in of itself. What makes it special is the number activities--both winter and summer--that surround it: downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, golfing, even windsurfing in a nearby reservoir. All told, it's a great destination, especially given it's proximity to Denver, just 70 miles away.
Another great ski resort in Colorado. Nice little town with a few bars and restaurants within walking distance of the resort.
